About the Project
# **GARIMA GREH – Safe Shelter, Rehabilitation & Empowerment**
**Established in 2021**, Garima Greh, Raipur is a dedicated **Shelter Home Programme for transgender persons under the SMILE Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India**. The programme has been entrusted to **Chhattisgarh Mitwa Sankalp Samitee** for implementation and operation in Chhattisgarh.
Garima Greh is designed as more than a shelter home. Along with **safe and dignified accommodation**, the programme provides a comprehensive support system covering **food and nutrition, healthcare services, counselling and emotional support, career guidance, education assistance, skill development, employment and job opportunities, sports, creative and cultural activities, and social rehabilitation**.
The programme aims to support transgender individuals who face **family rejection, homelessness, discrimination, social exclusion, unemployment, and limited access to essential services**. Through a holistic rehabilitation approach, Garima Greh helps beneficiaries move towards **self-confidence, economic independence, social inclusion, and dignified living**.

### **Key Achievements & Impact**
Over the years, Garima Greh has contributed to significant and measurable improvements in the lives of transgender individuals:
* **150+ transgender individuals** have been supported in accessing employment opportunities, with several working in reputed corporate organizations such as **BALCO, Vedanta, and Tata Steel**.
* **31 transgender individuals** are serving as **Police Constables** in government service, including individuals associated with **bomb disposal/specialized security services**.
* **50+ transgender individuals** have completed their **school and higher education**.
* **100+ transgender individuals** have received support with **Aadhaar and other identity documents**, including necessary name and gender changes.
* **10+ transgender individuals** have been referred to appropriate healthcare institutions for **sex reassignment surgeries**, and have successfully undergone the required procedures.
* Over the past approximately **five years, 500+ transgender individuals** have participated in **skill development, vocational training, employment-oriented training and capacity-building programmes**.
* Numerous beneficiaries have received **mental health counselling, emotional support and personal guidance**.
* Regular **health camps and healthcare support** have helped beneficiaries identify, address and manage various health concerns and access appropriate medical institutions.
Garima Greh's impact goes beyond providing shelter. It creates a pathway **from vulnerability to safety, from education to employment, from healthcare access to well-being, and from social exclusion to dignity and self-reliance**.
Through the support of the **Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India**, and the implementation efforts of **Chhattisgarh Mitwa Sankalp Samitee**, Garima Greh continues to work towards creating a safe, inclusive and empowering environment where transgender individuals can access essential services, develop their potential, secure livelihood opportunities and build an **independent and dignified future**.
